Customs officers of the Bio Diversity unit at the Bandaranaike International Airport nabbed eight boxes containing 669 live lobsters that were to be exported to Vietnam by a businessman breaching the Aquatic Resources Act.

The suspect is an owner of a lobster exporting company in Negombo.

It is strictly prohibited to export lobsters of less than six centimeters though big lobsters could be exported under a permit but this company did not have a permit to export lobsters.(Deepa Adikari)

this is like carrying coal to new castle. Vietnam is the largest sea food exporter in the world and lobsters are frequently found. Doesn't make any sense of this.

Before someone utter something, they should find out the reason behind these seizures. To ensure their reproduction the law prohibit the export of these creatures before they reach maturity age have gone through the cycle of reproduction and the law also prohibit the export of the ones that carrying eggs. These laws are enacted for a purpose, that is to prevent extinction of these creatures from our waters.
