The deadline for the submission to the UN Panel of Experts appointed by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Sri Lanka to look into alleged violations of international law will be extended, UN acting Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said.
“There will be some extension of the deadline”, UN acting Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq had said the Inner City Press reported. An official announcement had not yet been made regarding the extension.
Several submissions made via e-mail and Federal Express overnight mail service had bounced back. Federal Express overnight mail service had turned back at the listed UN address, on the third floor of the Dag Hammarskjold Library, with “no one to receive them”, according to the Inner City Press report.
Therefore it was acknowledged by UN officials that some extension might be required to the UN panel, though perhaps limited to those who could prove their submission had bounced back. (Daily Mirror online)
