Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Vavuniya U.K. Dissanayake and Chief Inspector Sujeewa Priyadarshana, who were arrested on charges of alleged treasure hunting, were further remanded till October 6 by Vavuniya Magistrate today.
The DIG was remanded after he surrendered to the police on September 19.
Six suspects were fined of Rs.100,000 each and one suspect was fined of Rs.175,000 by Magistrate V. Ramakamalan when they pleaded guilty.
The Police earlier said seven suspects, including four civilians and three Police officers attached to the said DIG’s office had already been arrested following investigations and added the DIG was transferred to the Eastern Province in order to maintain the credibility of the investigations.

Why are they allowed to cover their faces while under custody of the police / prisons? Is this a special favor that the police is doing for their colleagues? In which law book do we have that prisoners can cover their faces while under custody of the police / prisoners? It is a right for the public to see these faces, as this whole system of judiciary and justice system is paid by the public.

This is what happens when political appointments without checking the background of the candidates are appointed for higher posts in Police and the other forces.In those days, a thorough check up is made before appointing to such posts without any political interferenceCandidates character and family background etc. are check.

It is allowed because you are innocent until proven guilty. What if these individuals were not guilty?
