UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premasasa today said any moves to initiate disciplinary action against MP Dayasiri Jayasekera or anyone else would adversely affect the party as it might lose popular figures through such action.
Mr. Premadasa in statement referred to reports that disciplinary inquires were to be initiated against Mr. Jayasekera and Anurdhapura District UNP MPs P. Harrision and Chandrani Bandara.
The UNP Deputy Leader said at this moment action should be taken only against the government which had led this country towards destruction.
Mr. Premadasa said neither he nor any one else had been affected by statements made by Mr. Jayasekera at any point.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake commenting on the matter said he was not aware of any move to hold disciplinary inquiries against Mr. Harrison or Ms. Bandara. However, Mr. Attanayake said the report he had already submitted to the disciplinary committee led by Tilak Marapana included details of statements made by Mr. Jayasekera and how he ended up ata recent election rallies in Anuradhapura.
He said no letters had been sent to these members calling for an inquiry.
However Mr. Attanayake said procedures pertaining to disciplinary action was included in the party constitution to ensure that its members maintained good conduct. He said party’s discipline would decline in the absence of such procedures.
Meanwhile Mr. Harrison said neither he nor Ms. Bandara had received any official notification about any inquiry.
