Don’t overload trishaws: Police

The Traffic police today informed three wheel drivers that it was against the law to overload passengers and that action would be taken against violators.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror online police spokesman SP Preshantha Jayakody said it was illegal to overload three wheelers and that this was one of the main reasons for trishaw related accidents on the roads. He added that only a maximum number of 4 passengers could be safety transported in a trishaw.

Trishaws are an important part of the Sri Lanka transport system, filling many gaps in both the public and private transport systems of the country.
The reminder and warning comes after several fatal accidents involving trishaw were reported islandwide during the past few weeks.  (Daily Mirror online)
