Duminda’s security guards seek bail



Parliamentarian Duminda Silva’s six private security personnel and a telephone operator of who are in remand over the killing of former presidential advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra today filed a bail application in Court.

Colombo High Court Judge Pathman Surasena fixed the inquiry for April 19.

Counsel Anil Silva with Dhanaraj Samarakoon appeared for the six private security personnel - Prasad Hettiarachchi, Malaka Sameera, Saman Kumara, Vidanagamage Amila, Jagath Kumara and Suranga Premalal and telephone operator Tharindu Asanga.

Mr. Silva said the suspects were with the parliamentarian at the time of the shooting that took place in Walpola in Mulleriyawa on the day of the elections to the Kolonnawa Municipal Council and the Kotikawatte-Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha.

The counsel said the suspects had been taken in for questioning over the incident and then remanded.
He requested that they be granted bail because the investigations were over and the suspects had been in remand for a long time.

The judge directed the High Court Registrar to give notice to the Attorney General and the CID unit 3 OIC to appear in court on April 19.  (T. Farook Thajudeen)
