A 150 foot tower built by the Dutch, located at Kandawala along the Baseline Road in Katana has collapsed yesterday morning.
A Maternity Clinic building and electricity cables were damaged in the incident. Residents said the tower had collapsed due to road development work carried out near the tower.
Some residents have tried to take away the bricks of the tower as they have been numbered. It was reported that the Dutch used this tower to monitor the coastal areas and to measure the range. Western Province Chief Minister Isura Dewapriya had also visited the scene yesterday. (Ranjith Ferdinandes)

In other countries they protect these HISTORICAL MONUMENTS at any cost as they love their country and their history but in our country they destroy our history. We are still to see genuine rulers. via DM Android App
