Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) D.E.W. Gunasekera said today that the Deputy Justice Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe had to withdraw the enjoining order that prevented the publication or circulation of the COPE subcommittee draft report on the sale of Central Bank Bonds in fear of the statement made by Prof. G.L. Peiris recently.
Mr. Gunasekara said Prof. Peris had revealed in a news briefing that the COPE report would be submitted to the police when some of the UPFA MPs who were noticed gave statements.
“Sujeewa was frightened that we would submit the report with the statements. If we did so it would be a public document. Sujeewa is in trouble as he followed the instructions of his Minister,” he said.
Mr. Gunasekara said that it was Mr. Senasinghe who first spoke about the COPE report outside parliament and that it was a week later that they spoke about it.
“Sujeewa did it to gain an advantage at the election campaign by talking about the bond issue. But he has fallen in trouble today,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana)

We know that this report will have no impact in the election compared to the corruption UPFA were involved. Dew cannot cope with his hurriedly prepared COPE report, as it is only a drafted with a purpose in mind. President has gracefully exonerated the PM in his speech and made the CB governor responsible.

How can the COPE chairman chair a meeting with UPFA banner behind?? It seems this guy is a political ally of UPFA than the independent adjudicator of a public body!,

Well done Dave, sujeewa is thinking that he knows every thing . And this incident is good example to measure his knowledge. He tries to get credit from talking rubbish all the time and we can see the result now . He speaks like a child on TV debates and tries to concede that he is very clean and come from a big family . I hope that he will stop his nonsense attitude at least now

What has he done about the many COPE reports he had done before. How about having a press conference to explain them.

The bond issue was flawed and bad in essence and worse in the follow through. Whatever the color of the politics both Mahendra and Ranil should go. Talk of white collar criminality , this has been the crowning glory of all crookish deals and we nay see an explosion of financial frauds in many government institutes judging what has been going on.
