Exam Dept. seeks AG advice

Examinations Department said Attorney General’s advice is being sought at present, to consider the possibility of annulling all examination qualifications of the printing unit personnel suspected of being involved in the 2012 O/L science paper leak, if charges against him are proven.

Examinations Commissioner W.M.J. Pushpakumara speaking to Daily Mirror said, if AG’s approval is granted, all of the suspect’s examination qualifications including those of G.C.E. O/L and A/L examinations would be cancelled.

Commissioner Pushpakumara also said, if the charges against the suspect are proven, immediate steps will be taken to terminate his service and added, measures will be implemented to prevent the Examinations Department from issuing any certificates under the individual’s name, that are due for submission during migration or for any other purpose.

The confidentiality of the 2012 O/L Science paper was compromised when some 19 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) contained in the official paper were repeated verbatim in a model paper distributed in a private tuition class.

Following investigations by the CID into the incident, the private tuition teacher in question, as well as an individual employed in the printing unit of the Examinations Department was arrested in suspicion of the 2012 Science paper leak. (Lakna Paranamanna)
