You may face this in very near future in SL, like it happened to other countries when they declare Jihad.
Quran 47:4
So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure their bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. That [is the command]. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allah - never will He waste their deeds.

So you this as an excuse to do what ever you want?
If you really respect democracy why do you force your women to wear what you want , who to talk who to avoid? Let them decide themselves.
Wht do you do if somebody decides to leave Islam or a girl wears some more liberal clothes? Do you respect democracy then?

The headscarves & Covering of the bossom with loose clothing is a must for every muslim woman. The face veil on the other hand, according to many scholars is a matter of opinion. The person involved can evaluate the situation and then act on same. But to get rid off it altogether has not been allowed in Islam. So no matter how threatning the situation may become a true muslimah will be steadfast on same no matter what the people, society or relatives think or act. Allah knows best.

True, country rule comes first. They are taking lot of advantages due their relegion. Most of offices they go to church on 12:00 0r 12:30 and spend half an hour and then lunch. But nobody has denied those. But everything should have a limit.

Just let them cover their body, we don't want our Mother or Sister being looked like some bad women when they wear clothes which the body and the shape of the body can be seen.

You. Daily mirror.. is like Budu Bala Sena. You want to create disharmony among the communities living in harmony. If not, you may not highlight this issue so prominently and create an debate out of nothing. The issue was sorted out in the university. Done. Be a ethical and responsible. Pls pls do not dance according to tune of others, as we have more detrimental problems like cost of living, jobs and even press freedom..

Hey Prashanthani,
You dont need, a veil to have many men.. The report says only 2 students from thousands of students, so they will look distinguished when they are around... Not like you... a ghost....... if you want many men you have to go back to university again...... without a veil.... :)

Dont be foolish. Allow other religious people to do their style.
Generally opening of girls body to male attraction is Animal behavior not human behavior. Good way of lifestyle always good.

You are right. I'm a part time lecturer of the past and I have encountered Muslim female students with faced veil both in a "girls only" class and a mixed class. Most of them are comfortable in taking off their veil during the sessions, while some keep it on. It isn't an issue with the religion It's their choice, to decide which is better for them to have a better grasp of the lecture.
What people have to understand is the face veil is a personal choice of the woman, where she decides to hide her face from overwhelming luring looks of the opposite. Islam commands both men and women to lower the gaze in the presence of opposite sex (who are non-related) as much as possible, and additionally for the woman to hide her face as much as possible in the presence of non-related men. There is nothing such as forced "veiling" in Islam. It's just a term extravagantly used by the media to fire-up Islamophobia...!

You see, if you want to tarnish the religion, I suggest you pick some text off that religion's Holy Script rather than another religion's one. Because It seems that you are not talking with solid facts. Islam is not Christianity or Judaism although there are similarities but why there are differences is for you to learn and understand rather than just blindly blabber. FYI, Islam Respects women more than you can even imagine. Please go through solid materials as to how it does without just speaking, it shows the level of intelligence or negligence on your part.

There should be absolutely no issue with what you wear and what you want to wear. But the people who wear these things should have brain inside their skull to think what they are doing. These dresses given to women by these medieval desert religions for two reasons: 1 in desert climate fine dust particles running amok all over you 2) These religions denigrated the women as trash and smelly stuff and covered up them head to toe. Bible says - women is cause for all evil and even bible call women as evil when she did the first sin -sex. So time past evil became Eva in the Adam and Eva business. Subsequently, course of history, from Judaism and Christianity - Muslims copied everything, what we call three Abrahamic religions. So answer for these idiots is nothing but the education. What else can we do? Jesus went on the donkey and the Muslim guy went on Camel and we are in rocket science age mate.

If any one want to protect themself and want to follow their religion , as per the constitution of sri lanka, this is allowed, and there is no rule that the request should come from large no of students , it can be one or may be none because we have think the future
And this is a clear human right that any one can wear what they want if it doesn't violate others right
If you want to identify students you may use your female Disciplinary Committee member
You could concentrate on other key matters to ensure safety and discipline within the university premises, we know what happened it the past and you could use this to plan the future
Thanks

They can see our face and we can not see theirs?
In some EU country, as I remember in France, banned wearing face veil in public places to protect rights of majority, and security reasons.
Even a person who has a sexual oriented mental disorder like transgender, can wear a face veil and enter a place where women only privacy exists, pretending to be a real women.

John is right
People must learned to blend in with the majority of society. when it fails there is a tension.
This is why there is a Religious and racial tension in EU or Asian countries like Burma and India.
If they want something else then they can go somewhere suite their needs.
Can you go to Saudi do what ever you want?

Should any respect be shown to divisive religions that are full of hatred and superstition.
Religions were primarily a human invention for safeguarding the interests of confined parochial groups. It gives licence to denigrate, deprecate and even murder those not belonging to ones own kind. (IRA, JIHAD, BBS, etc)
Unfortunately it has been an evolutionary necessity. It was a primary difference between homo-sapiens and neanderthals, ensuring the survival of the former.

J' Pura university is as great as in any other university in the country in terms of in terms of accommodating religious and cultural diversity. So, no need to blow this issue out of proportion. Let everyone have his/her freedom of choice in a democratic country as Sri Lanka - If a bikinied European tourist can have the freedom to roam around our beaches and destroy the common cultural norms of all religions, why not the same freedom for a girl who chooses the veil out of her own volition, for her own protection, without any external pressure?

THE ONE IS COVERED IS MORE BETTER THAN THE ONE IS OPEN , IF YOU THROW TWO TOFFEES TO THE GROUND WITH DIRT ONE WITH COVERED AND ONE UNCOVERED , WHICH ONE U PREFER TO TAKE BACK AND EAT . ANSWER YOUR SELF. A FEMALE IS A MOTHER , SISTER , WIFE OR A DAUGHTER SOME SOME PERSON , DO PREFER ONE OF THEM TO BE MOLESTED IN FRONT OF YOUR OWN EYES IF THEY ARE NOT COVERED , THIS HAPPENS IN TODYAS LIFE , THE ONE GET ATTRACTED ARE THE ONE BEING IN DANGER
