Falling tree kills one and injures two others

One person was killed and two injured when a tree fell on the Malabe-Kaduwela road near Pittugala Junction this morning, the Police said.

Five vehicles, including two three-wheelers, two motorcycles and a small lorry were damaged due to the tree fallen.

Police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said the victim was 54 year-old resident of Malabe

SRI LANKA must be the only country where, STILL, falling wayside trees in the CAPITAL City itself, KILL Citicens and leave them injured for LIFE and then..... with Buildings YET not accessible even using External aids, is thrusted to a World of Exclusion and Discrimination with NO Compensations nor Insurance Coverage. I SPEAK with my own Tragedy at Thummula Junction Bullers Road years ago and STILL..... this tragedy continues to happen often!!

The local councils should periodically assess the danger and prune trees to balance the branches and tilts. This is done in Singapore regularly.

Dr.Perera, you should start reading international news papers to broaden your knowledge. Just Google and check how many trees have fallen and injured people in Hong Kong, a city that is well managed. In the last 12 months alone couple of trees have fallen causing fatalities.

Municipal councils are not fortune tellers. They cannot predict when a tree will fall.
