Five killed, 1299 affected by rain

Five persons were killed and more than 1299 persons were affected due to the heavy rain and landslides affecting Kegalle, Galle and Kalutara Districts, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.

Two persons were killed in Damala, while two children were killed in Kendawa due to landslides in the Kegalle District.

Fourteen houses were also partially damaged due to the heavy rain and floods affecting these Districts, DMC officials said.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online DMC spokesman Pradeep Kodippili said that no major incidents were reported yet due to the rain and that village level relief activities are taking place to assist those affected.(Gandhya Senanayake)
