Some former LTTE cadres who were reintegrated into society after rehabilitation had been rearrested following information about their alleged involvement in attempts to carry out terrorist activities, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratane said in Parliament today. However, he did not give any specific number in this respect.
The Prime Minister, delivering his monthly speech during the debate on the extension of the state of emergency, said that over 6000 LTTE members had been handed over to their families after rehabilitation, and the entire process would complete before the end of this year.
“During the first week of March, 313 cadres were released from rehabilitation centres. Security authorities closely monitor all the activities of these released members to ensure that they are reintegrated into society in the proper way. We have completed the rehabilitation process up to 70 percent. We will complete the rest by the end of this year,” he said.
Also, he said that there was a court order last month to refer 100 LTTE cadres held under detention order to rehabilitation (KB/YP)
