Forty marooned in Somawathi
Forty persons including a Buddhist monk, twenty Army personnel and sixteen members of the Civil Defence Force have been marooned in the sacred site of Somawathi Temple, police said. The area has been flooded by the surging waters of Periya Aru.
Police said that Buddhist monks were taken in boats to the historic temple to perform religious rites on Friday. (K.G. Karunarathne)
