Four arrested for circulating harmful SMSs

Four people were arrested by the police for allegedly circulating an SMS message with the intent of creating disharmony among communities, the Police said.
The Police Media Unit said in a statement that the SMS had originated from a Sri Lankan national in Kuwait by the name of Rizwan who had sent it to a resident of Kurunegala identified as Mohammed Shiraz Mohammed.
Later he and three others-Mohammed Rila, Mahamoud Naslum and Abdul Lathif Mohammed Kiyaz- had forwarded the SMS to many others, the Police said.
After a thorough investigation, a special Criminal Investigations Department (CID) team arrested the four suspects on Tuesday under the Section 120 of the Penal Code (Creating religious disharmony).
The suspects are to be produced before the court.
