Fuel bowser owners to strike

The Ceylon Petroleum Private Bowser Owners Association today threatened to suspend transportation of fuel on April 9th &10th if their demand to increase fee rates are not met by the CPC.

Secretary of the association Shantha Silva said that subsequent to the recent fuel hike they had requested the CPC to increase the fee paid to them. “We have continuously told the relevant authorities that we cannot operate with the money that they are paying us. In addition to the fuel hike the cost of everything else relating to the transportation has increased drastically. We have requested an increase of 30% and the executive committee decided that if the demand is not met we will not transport fuel in the coming two days” he said.

Private bowsers are the main mode of transport contributing close to 80% of the total volume of fuel transported. “We have over 600 vehicles under the association, we have also requested transporters of Lankan IOC to participate in the campaign,” he said.(HF)
