The government today announced that the next general elections would be held under a new electoral system- a mix of the First Past the Post System and the Proportional Representation - replacing the current preferential vote based electoral system.
Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Rajitha Senaratne said President Maithripala Sirisena had summoned the Elections Commissioner, Attorney General and the Surveyor General for a discussion on reforms of the electoral system where the elections commissioner had assured to expedite the introduction of the new system.
“The new system is a requirement as we promised to deliver during the presidential election campaign. The cabinet on Wednesday agreed for the reforms prior to going in for the election,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)

Good decision. General election must be held under new system. This may be the last chance for a change.

Rouges (Ex-ministers) are freely loafing and enjoying the best benefits than earlier. They will come into power soon.

Traditional electorates elect most suitable persons as MPs. Influence of ill-earned wealth and under-world roles would be minimum.
