The government will acknowledge whatever war atrocity allegations presented before the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission by the public but not those by disgruntled local and foreign elements, hell-bent on tarnishing the image of Sri Lanka, Cabinet spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said a short while ago. Yes, the so called "public" can be threatened and brainwashed with misinformation and propaganda whereas "disgruntled elements" ( meaning the educated types with ability to think independently) both local and foreign can not be taken for a ride. Well understood, Mr. Minister! Has it never occured to you that once in a way it would do a hell of a lot of good for the country if you keep your trap closed for some time.

Why only selected individuals? Why not open it to the public and allow anyone who wants to say what they know. Its then left to the public to believe and verify the truth.

The UN is not an unbiased entity. It is very partial to Western powers such as USA and UK which commit massive atrocities in Iraq (killed one and a half million civilians from 2003) and Afghanistan (many hundreds of thousands killed), and Palestinian territories (by Israel which treats them like prisoners and practices apartheid and collective punishment to all Palestinians)

Therefore, submissions need to be examined by an independent panel such as the International Criminal Court or ICJ with no political pressure from foreign powers who wanted to continue the civil war in Sri Lanka in their own interests, and like to see an unstable country rather than a peaceful one.

Proceedings against suspects of crime, need to be conducted in full media view and transparency to the public rather than behind closed doors.

If you are acknowledging atrocities and if those acknowledged are the accussations themselves then their is not difference absolutely in both. Keheliya you are articulating words to hood wink the idiotic public to believing that no war crimes took place.
