Harry buys Pelwatte Sugar

Business Tycoon Harry Jayawardena controlled Distilleries Company has bought over the controlling stake of Pelwatte Sugar from its major shareholder Master Divers, a company owned by businessman Ariyaseela Wickramanayake.

The deal amounting just over Rs.1 billion took place in four major crossing on the board of Colombo Stock Exchange a while ago

“Now Distilleries Company has the control of Pelwatte Sugar. But I have retained the control of Pelwatte Dairy" Ariyaseela Wickramanayake told Mirror Business over the phone.

Master Diverters held 55.56 million shares or 81.7 percent in Pelwallte as at 31.12.2010. Pelwatte has 67.98 million shares in issue.

Ariyaseela Wickramanayake does not like to go in to liqueur industry it seems. On the other hand Harry might even use all the sugar production to liqueur industry .
