UNP Mayoral candidate for Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) A. J. M. Muzammil today said he would not depend on the central government to run the CMC if elected mayor as the assets within the council is sufficient for it.

However he said he is prepared to work with the institutions such as the Urban Development Council (UDA) as long as they don’t do anything which is harmful to people in the city.

Mr. Muzammil told a news conference today that it is the central government which is bankrupted today. “How can the central government support local bodies financially in a situation where its funds are only sufficient to pay salaries for only six months?” he said (YP)

That does not mean that the Government should bully or threathen the voters that they will remove the plug if the UPFA is not elected bringing back the garbage era. Give them a chance man. UNP has a very good team and they will definitely deliver.
