ICC calls Ranatunga bluff

International Cricket Council (ICC) had rejected a claim made by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Interim Committee Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga that ICC had rated Sri Lanka as the best ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 host.

Cricket website “Island Cricket” reported yesterday that ICC’s Head of Media and Communications Colin Gibson had made this denial after Sri Lankan newspapers reported a statement made by Ranatunga at a press conference on Monday.

“All three hosts of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 have been praised for their efforts in staging an excellent World Cup, which was universally regarded as one of the best in history” Gibson had told the website.

Gibson had also said that he was unaware if “anyone has identified one country better than another,” and later added that he could not “find anyone who has made such a statement” at the ICC.
