SriLankan Airlines will increase flights to Japan starting tomorrow to cope with the increased bookings in the aftermath of the emergency situation there, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
The first of these flights UL 1423 will depart Tokyo at 1630 hours tomorrow and arrive in Colombo at 0015 hours on Friday, according to the national carrier.
Meanwhile the Japanese Foreign Ministry in a briefing of the Diplomatic Corps on Tuesday has transmitted that there is no need for emergency measures to be taken in order to protect foreign nationals living there--in the wake of the situation triggered by explosions at nuclear plants in the Fukushima area due to the earthquake last Friday.
“The Government of Japan is taking all necessary measures to manage the situation, by cautioning the residents living within a radius of 30 kms from the nuclear facilities, to stay indoors,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry of External Affairs continues to be in close contact with the Sri Lanka Mission in Tokyo, according to Additional Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Ranjith Uyangoda. (Dianne Silva )
