Amid reports that some LTTE cadres have come to Sri Lanka from India with the intention of creating disturbances in the north and east, the Indian High Commission said yesterday Sri Lankan authorities had not taken up such an issue with India.
The High Commission said the relevant agencies of the two countries continued to share information related to security and that such an issue had not cropped up.
The killing of an EPDP member last month had led the security authorities to suspect that LTTE activists who fled the country during the war had returned to carry out violent activities.
Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said on Sunday that investigations were continuing to check whether there was an LTTE involvement in this killing though the investigations as at present had not helped the police to come to any particular conclusion.
When asked for a comment on this case, the EPDP said it too suspected that kind of an involvement in the killing of their member.
“We are looking for further information. We cannot come to conclusions based on one isolated incident. Anyway, we are trying to gather more information,” a party spokesman said adding that the LTTE killed some 1,000 EPDP members during the war years.
“Numerous attempts were made to assassinate our leader and Minister Douglas Devananda,” the spokesman said. (Kelum Bandara)
