Inquiry into complaints - CPC

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation said today that it will begin inquiries on more than 4000 complaints from vehicle owners whose vehicles have been damaged by the use of substandard petrol in order to provide compensation.

A CPC source told the Daily Mirror that the CPC has received 3500 phone calls and 650 written appeals requesting compensation from the CPC from July 4 to 17. “We have collected the appeals that were made to us in writing and will carry out a separate inquiry on each one,” the source said.

Those who had made their complaints over the phone should hand in a written appeal to the CPC, he said. The Regional Managers of the nine CPC regional officers in the country will recruit officers to carry out a separate inquiry on each vehicle that is suspected to have been damaged by substandard petrol he said. 

“A report will be compiled and handed over to the CPC chairman, Petroleum Minister and other ministry officials who will decide on how the people will be compensated,” the source said. He said it is still uncertain on what conditions the people will be compensated, the process of compensating the people or how much time, the process will take but said will be decided after the inquiry is complete
