IUSF convener gets bail

The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) convener Sanjeewa Bandara was released on bail a short while ago, the IUSF said.

According to the IUSF its convener and a few other students of the University of Ruhuna were released on bail this afternoon when they were produced to the Galle Magistrate’s Court.

He was arrested a few weeks ago when returning after a function held at the Agrarian faculty of the University of Ruhuna by the Thihagoda Police.

“Sanjeewa was arrested on a suspicion for possessing a firearm but now they are trying to frame him for an incident where two Ruhunu University students who were stabbed by the members of a rival student group,” the IUSF said. (SR)
