A jeep heading from Kottawa to Pinnaduwa caught fire in the Elpitiya area on the Southern Expressway early this morning, police said.

They said eight passengers including two children were travelling in the vehicle when the incident occurred but no one was reported to have been injured.

The passengers had got down from the vehicle having seen smoke coming out of it before the vehicle caught fire. Police suspect that the fire might have been caused due to a technical fault.
