The coach and Cricket Advisory Committee of St. Joseph’s College have tendered their resignation today, following a dispute with the school’s Rector ahead of their 78th annual cricket encounter with St. Peter’s College, a source told Daily Mirror.

Speculation was that the coach was to quit either today or tomorrow morning before the match, but it was announced that he along with the advisory committee had decided to quit this evening.

The dispute was regarding the Rector’s insistence of the inclusion of a player who was not in the initial team for tomorrow’s match.

Very true. So the if a student / player has the required talents and dedication but not the money ; he or she will lose ...... Sad story indeed.

Hey, St Josephs is a great school and has a great history. One of the more silent and and understated schools, but has produced fabulous Gentlemen and great to associate guys. I am from a leading catholic school in Kandy and we over there hold SJC in such high esteem.

Lets leave this issue for Old Joes to resolve and not make this isolated incident to talk of non related shortcomings any school for surely will have.

The national news is that corruption has crept into every walk of life. Even into places that mould our young generations and by none other than the clergy. All adults are quick to complain how indiciplined the young generation is. Well news flash ...here is one example from where some are learning moral fair decent behavior from.

In a previous annual prize giving Advance Level best student prize was not awarded to a boy who received all the prizes in Grade 12 and 13 and obtained all A's at the GCE A/L but to a junior who has not even sat for GCE A/Ls. Not the deserving student but teachers favourites are given preference.

Its a pitty that it has come to such a state. This is not bad just for joes cricket but for joes in general. I hope the school administration including the rector sort them selves out!

this is the situation in most of the schools, even Wesley College also fits to the above category and it is not the best team that plays but the most preffered team that is fielded, end of the day corruption stars from school level and then escalates, MOE should have closer eye on all these private schools as they charge huge donations and fees and then fully corrupted. Pls take a look at the schools with a microspoic eye,over to you Minister of Education.

When Parents spend money for private school education they want the school to create prodigy students . Even Rectors have to run their schools as profitable business ventures and favour the sources that invest .Some benefit at the cost to others !

This has been a common occurrence at St. Joseph's College. Earlier on they honoured distinguished old joes during the annual prize giving, which again was a great hoax.. Many who are professionals and brought honour and glory to St. Joseph's have never been recognized. Its time SJC became more professional like during the 1970's.

This is the problem with both Joes and Petes with both School authorities and Old boys try to medle with the side.... Hope they can sort out all these issues before the big match....
