A top diplomat Karunathilake Amunugama who was the previous Sri Lankan Ambassador to China, assumed duties as the new Foreign Secretary for the External Affairs Ministry today, Director General of Public Communication at the External Affairs Ministry Sarath Dissanayake told Daily Mirror online.

Mr. Amunugama succeeds Romesh Jayasinghe as the new Foreign Secretary.

Mr. Amunugama joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1985 and has served in many Sri Lanka Missions abroad. He has also served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Bangkok, Tokyo and Beijing, prior to his appointment as the External Affairs Secretary. (Daily Mirror online)
