Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said on Thursday that Malaka Silva, the son of Minister Mervyn Silva who was wanted in connection with the assault on an Army major had not been arrested while he was at the Kelaniya Temple as the police would have felt that arresting him in the sacred precincts of the Kelaniya Temple was not proper.
“Police would have thought that arresting him in the presence of the Sacred Relics was not etiquette,” he said.
The minister was replying to a question by a journalist as to why the two special police teams that had been deployed to arrest Malaka Silva, had not arrested him when he was at the Kelaniya Temple.( Ajantha Kumara Agalakada)

Despite all the obvious lies and corruption, people will continue to vote for this government. Why wasn't his vehicle followed and the arrest made after he left the temple? Maybe they turned the Silva residence into a sacred place? We may all laugh calling this bullshit, but the sad part is that 60% of the local population will believe this and hail the police.

Punishing Mervin should be done by ppl bcos gov is protecting him. he should be publicly flogged, stripped naked and taken along the streets of colombo and kelaniya while ppl can spit on his body and finally publicly executed. His body should be dumped in sea. I have never said such things to anybody but seeing what happens in SL i truly want to see this happen.

Mervyn Silva must be proud of his son. He is behaving just like other sons of great leaders. Once, Saddam Hussein's son Uday beat up the entire Iraqi Football team when they failed to qualify for the World Cup. His sister and husband were executed by him because they tried to defect to the West. Malaka has a long way to go to come even close to Uday.

What a Joke.. This is how Ministers talk in Sri Lanka. What a fool. So all the criminals in the Country should go to Kalaniya temple or Sri Dalada Maligawa and they will not be arrested? Prabakarayan should have stayed in Jaffna Kovil and he was not going to be arrested? Even the police is laughing. He is guarded by Police and Police is looking for him.. Ok, now what's the problem? From all the comments one can see that people are totally disgusted abot this Malaka fellow's matter - and are now gradually losing faith in the government - including the President who has so far been held in high esteem by the people. The President and Mr Gotabhaya must immediately intervene and order that this Malaka fellow is arrested without any further delay and without any interference from his father, and get him locked up for good once and for all. I have been an ardent supporter of Mahinda Rajapakse - even before he became President - but I am gradually losing my faith in him and his government. This Malaka fellow's incident could be a turning point for the President and his government for his lack of action against this thug. I ernestly request the President and his brother Mr Gotabhaya to immediately order the arrest of this Malaka fellow and his other thugs and imprison them without bail.

Oh I forgot the employment of the family just to trot out stupid lies, not bad for a idiot polevaulter to be making a million Rupees a month. The president got the relics to accumilate merit for all the thuggery and stealing that is going on as never before. Even the colonial rulers did not steal the way the Rajapakses do.The vote base for these hoodlums is the rural villages who live in a time warp and do not know how to use their vote , and the people do not ever refer to WE THE PEOPLE and the politicians are there to represent the people

What kind of educational bacground do you have.
