Lanka among UNEP winners

Sri Lanka is among 30 winners of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) annual SEED award that honours innovative start-up ventures in countries around the world.

The “Rural Enterprise Network (REN)” from Sri Lanka was placed among entries from countries like Burkina Faso, China, Colombia, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Senegal and South Africa. The REN aims at linking small-scale farmers to input-output markets through improved product quality, access to market information and the establishment of a common brand. By organizing producers in a network of organic agro- and food processing enterprises, the farmers will benefit from joint marketing services.

The SEED Awards recognise inspiring social and environmental entrepreneurs whose businesses can help meet sustainable development challenges. (DS)
