Lanka rebuts US law makers call

The Ministry of External Affairs today said that the US lawmakers call for a global probe into alleged rights violations by Sri Lanka in the last stages of the conflict, was “unwarranted”.

“We have a robust domestic mechanism in the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton herself has said the Commission must be given time and space to complete its task,” Ministry of External Affairs Director General of Public Communication and Spokesperson Bandula Jayasekera told Daily Mirror.

"We strongly believe that any conclusions reached by the Sri Lankan government's commissions must be verified by a parallel international mechanism" backed by the United Nations, dozens of senators wrote to Mrs. Clinton. (DS)

I have heard over and over again about Human Rights abuses done by SL government troops. But not a single statement on the LTTE abuses who have blown up Presidents, Prime Ministers-national and international, and assasinated prominent Tamil citizens and politicians who spoke against LTTE policies. This imbalance leads me to wonder whether Democracy itself has been hijacked? If not for China's determined assistance given to SL, this country could well have been still fighting a dirty civil war!

Lawmakers from the United states of who? From what I know this is an internal issue of the United People of Sri-Lanka. So who cares what the USA says? They were elected by the Americans FOR the Americans. This is Sri-Lanka and a government elected by the citizens of Sri-Lanka. So, does it matter what the senators utter? a BIG FAT NO !!!!

US law makers should clear the allegations of humanrights violations of their country first, without pointing fingers to other countries. They can suggest to have an international mechanism backed by UN to inquire HR violations allegedly done by US troops in Iraq and Afganistan.

As per the AFP report, US law makers have made the request on last friday that is 17 Dec.2010. However, Tamilnet reported the same story on 10 Dec. 10. It is interested to know how Tamilnet knew the letter even before it goes to Hilary Clinton. It is a clear indication that Tigers have direct link with these lawmakers and they knew the story even before it delivered.

All the people know, LLRC can't make it. Even they weren't panctual. For Morning sessions they came evening only. People waited long hours to see them.
