Lanka win final ODI

Sri Lanka won the fifth and final One Day International against Australia, on the back of fifties from Mahela Jayawardena and Chamara Silva, and a hat-trick from Lasith Malinga, at the R. Premadasa Stadium today, though the tourists had already secured the series.

Jayawardene top scored with 71 and supported under-fire Chamara Silva, who consolidated the innings with the former, scoring 63.

Australia were restricted to 211 after Lasith Malinga run through the middle order with a hat-trick, as the Aussies lost 5 wickets for 1 run. He ended with figures of 3 for 35, becoming the first man to take three one-day international hat-tricks, earning him the man of the match award.

Sri Lanka looked in trouble in the chase, when they were reduced to 33 for 3 in the sixth over, but the 111-run recovery job from Jayawardena and Silva took the hosts to safety as they eventually coasted to victory with four wickets in hand and 18 balls to spare.

Michael Clarke was adjudged man of the tournament.

The teams will next meet in the three match test series, which begins on August 31, 2011 at the Galle International Stadium.
