The LTTE was in contact with western countries and were sure that western leaders would step in to rescue them during the final hours of the war, according to a statement made by the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN Dr. Palitha Kohona at an event in Colombo a short while ago.
“The LTTE during the final stages of the war were in constant contact with western leaders. They were sure that the western powers would jump in and rescue them,” Dr.Kohona said while addressing a forum of the Institute of Engineers of Sri Lanka.
Dr. Kohona also noted that the President during his term considered all options to bring peace to the country. However all attempts at peaceful negotiations were rebuffed and thus the President had to take an alternate route. “We were rebuffed, laughed at and ridiculed by the LTTE every time we tried peaceful means,” he said.
He also described how Sri Lanka was ostracized by the majority of the western countries yet was able to overcome this by good foreign relations. “When we were trying to bring down arms from the Czech Republic western powers influenced those countries around them and did not allow for the artillery to be taken to a port. Thereby the train carrying these items was crisscrossing across Europe. Finally we convinced Poland to allow us to use their port,” he said.

It is to spite India that Western power houses are trying 'every trick in the book,' using our country as 'bait,' for geo-political reasons.

It is acceptable they were trying this tactic and the west was happy to help the tamil tigers 100% as the west wanted the war to go on for their own advantage.

Western nations need to mind their own business sometimes. They only make things easier for MR and his corrupt ways because he uses them as a punching bag to rally the support of people and deflect blame away from himself. It also makes things difficult for the opposition because MR tries to connect these western nations with the opposition and the gamme katiya falls for it.

Undoubtedly. With their vast net work of gun running, drug trade & with a pulse on all terrorists Organisations, the WEST despite of the blood shed in Sri Lanka was vehem4ntly attemting to shield the LTTE.
The LTTE in turn was involved in a double game in spying for the WEST on activities of Al Qaeda as the West was very dependent of the LTTE input.
therefor5e, the West & the Western Media & with their NGOs did everything possible to glorify the LTTE even to the extent of providing funds and turning a blind eye.
Finally came the micalculation of the West. Under estimating the Sri Lanka Forces and mainly the battle front Commanders.
With the annhilation of the ltte went with it an information source on Al Quaeda. Therefore, the rescue effort was no surprise and its a terrible shame on Hilary, bernard Kuchnere & David mili Banda who come from thye largest block of Democracy preachers.
