Main suspect in Rizana Nafeek case remanded



The main suspect who is alleged to have forged the passport and the Birth certificate of Rizana Nafeek to seek employment in Saudi Arabia was remanded by the Colombo Chief Magistrate on Tuesday.

The suspect Thambi Lebbe Abdul Salam was arrested by the CID in Beruwala on Monday on a tip off given to the police and when he was produced before the Magistrate the suspect was remanded till September 27 since the investigations were not concluded.

Earlier, two other suspects Shahul Hameed Abdul Latiff of 178, Shafie Nagar, Muttur and  Pakeer Mohamed Wajurdeen of 37/3, Mosque Lane Colpetty, Colombo 3 were arrested and remanded allegedly for aiding and abetting Thambi Lebbe Abdul Salam  to  forge  documents in order  to obtain a passport to the under aged girl Rizana Nafeek of Muttur.

Rizana Nafeek is jailed in the death row in  Saudi Arabia to be beheaded for killing her master’s infant child by choking him  while bottle feeding. An appeal for her release from death sentence is under consideration of the Saudi authorities. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
