Maithripala sidelined: UNP

United National Party (UNP) MP Ajith Mannaperuma charged today Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena was helpless in the wake of the crisis in the health sector because the Government had sidelined him.

“Minister Sirisena has been sidelined because he is labeled as a supporter of the Banaranaikes in the SLFP,” Mr. Mannaperuma said.

The Government which created divisions among political parties is now creating divisions among public servants in various sectors including the health sector ,Mr.Mannaperuma said.

He told a media briefing that the Government was sowing seeds of discontent among the doctors, midwives and nurses without resolving the crises in the health sector.

“The health sector is in utter disarray today,” Mr. Mannaperuma said.

He said the number of patients under the hospital beds were greater than the number of patients on hospital beds.

Mr. Mannaperuma said pharmacies and medical laboratories were being opened in close proximity to Government hospitals because of the opportunities provided to the private sector for the supply of medicine and laboratory services because the state hospitals have stopped providing these services any more.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Sirwardana)
