Mandatory bill for all Fuel

It will be mandatory to issue a bill to the consumer every time fuel is purchased at filling stations with immediate effect, Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

Minister Premajayantha said this step was taken to protect the rights of the consumer as there has been a marked increase of complaints from consumers, especially from motorists against filling station owners.

“The main objective in this exercise is to provide quality service to the consumer and ensure they get 100% clean fuel. The CEYPETCO with the assistance of the police has been able conduct raids to detect adulterated fuel dens where they mix petrol and diesel with cheap ingredients and sell them to unsuspecting consumers,” Minister he said.

Mininster Premajayantha said he instructed CEYPETCO Chairman Harry Jayawardana to advise all CEYPETCO filling stations to issue a bill to every purchase of fuel.

Dismissing rumours that a fuel hike is imminent shortly, Minister Premajayantha stressed that the government has no intention what so ever to increase the fuel price despite the sharp increase of fuel prices in the global market.

“The CEYPETCO incurs Rs.41, Rs.33 and Rs.2 a litre respectively from kerosene, diesel and petrol. We have contemplated several measures such as re-entering the bunkering, marketing of tar and furnace oil to minimise our losses,” Minister Premajayantha said.

The action taken by previous governments to sell CEYPETCO’s trading activities to the private sector has affected it dearly. (By Sandun A.Jayasekera)
