The National Olympic Committee (NOC) has handed over a letter giving 14days to Commonwealth Games gold medalist Manju Wanniarachchi to explain why his A-sample had tested positive for drugs.
The Commonwealth Games officials had notified the NOC regarding the positive test earlier this week. Manju Wanniarachchi had reportedly said he tested positive due to a medication he was taking for Asthma. (Daily Mirror online)

Drug tests must be carried out before competitions and only cleared players should be allowed to go ahead. This will save embarrassment to many including politicos.

Similar charges were raised against Susanthika when she took drugs to delay her periods. Did she become a vilain? NO, NO. She was even handed the Olympic silver medal for her 200 dash in Sydney. Similarly, Manju would survive.

Well it is a sad day for Sri Lanka. Almost all the Sri Lankans watched the match live, but now he has put the whole nation in disgrace. He has accepted that he had taken the banned substance six months back, so Sri Lanka has lost it's only Boxing gold medal in 72 years.
Since he has accepted that he took it, there is no point of carrying our an investigation. ban him for 2-3 years. No matter what you achieve, You should make sure that You would not put your motherland into disgrace.
Hats off to Chinthana Withanage for winning medals in 2 consecutive Commonwealth game events without taking any.

Typical Sri Lankan mentality... Once someone wins we praise him/her at the highest level. But the moment we hear something against the win or if he or she fails in another attempt, we tend to criticize the person and put him down. It’s time to grow-up, we achieve nothing by destructive criticism. We are Sri Lankans not Indians or Pakistanis. Let us wait till we know the outcome of the investigation before we pass a negative comment. Manju hasn't gone on a holiday and spent public funds. He has fought his heart out to get a Medal to our country.

Kolla must have take steroids for asthma. They are given when you have long term asthma. If the drug that was detected in A-sample was a type of steroid given to asthma related ailment then he will be exonerated. Otherwise, give the gold in a baggage to Gota, he knows how to spin anything and everything by his teeth, if that did not work he could send a white van to NOC. Any case, hail these local boys/gals who represented the country without chits from politicos.
