Former Sri Lanka Cricket Vice President K. Mathiavanan issuing a statement regarding his stepping down, said he tendered his resignation from his post due to 'non recognition within the SLC', and dispelled media reports to the effect that he was forced to resign.
The former Vice President yesterday resigned from his post stating that " There were circumstances beyond my control which compelled me to step down from the contest” in reference to the election for the Presidency of the Colts Cricket Club for which he was to contest against SLC Secretary Nishantha Ranathunga.
However, hours before the Colts Cricket Club election, Mathiavanan withdrew from the race and immediately tendered his resignation from the post of Vice President of the SLC.
Following is the full statement
There have been mischievous reports in the media lately that I have been forced to resign from the Sri Lanka Cricket and also to withdraw from contesting the Presidency of the Colts Cricket Club. Some other reports quote that I resigned after receiving a call too.
All these reports are absolutely false.
I decided to resign from the Sri Lanka Cricket because I felt I have not got due recognition within the SLC structure in line with my position.
This also led me to make a decision to break any association with Cricket in Sri Lanka, as such I decided to withdraw from contesting for the Colts Club Presidency.
