The official residence of former minister Keheliya Rambukwella (on Keppetipola Mawatha Colombo 7) is to become the official residence of President Maithripala Sirisena, government sources said.
This building was earlier used by D.B. Wijetunga as his official residence when he was president. It is reported that the premises are now being renovated.
Mr. Maithripala Sirisena had announced, some time ago, that he would not reside at President’s House or at Temple Trees if he were elected President.
Sources also said that the residence occupied at present by President Sirisena, on Wijerama Mawatha Colombo 7, which he had occupied since the time he was a minister would now be handed over to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.(Ajantha Kumara Agalakada)

Best thing is to keep the Temple Trees residence as a museum and charge the public about Rs.100 per person (for maintenance) to visit it and see the lavish style in which MR lived. This will expose his true colours and rally the public against him if he tries to enter parliament at the next elections

Renovating means changing beds and pillows and other items. It seems like you want the President to sleep in the same bed of the balcony jumper and his sleep walking son used.

I appreciate the simplicity displayed by the President. However a large sum of money being already spent in building President palaces around the country. Hence the President should use the already built housesg instead investing on renovation which is not productive. I respect the current President,s point of view. But it is difficult to agree on wasting public money in the name of simplicity.

Only see the expenses. What about the multiplied revenues brought to this country by MR from where it was after CBK. President Premadasa left country in such bad state. Today where Sri Lanka is over last 10 years progress is unthinkable with any other leader.

Some backward Sri Lankans want to remain a 3rd world forever. MR upgraded our per capita income from CBK time USD850 to over USD3000 in 10 years.

If anyone is saying you can bring down cost of living in Sri Lanka or anywhere it is a lie good for fool people. This will never happen. With reprint of money all these will vanish over next few months. What is possible is to bring up standard of living. Thats what MR was doing by raising per capita income over time.

Temple tree consists of large dining areas that can feed thousands at any time, lush swimming pool, lush bedrooms with multifaceted dimming systems, conference halls with state of the art lighting. Does a simple third world country like ours need this kind of waste?

the official residence of the president is too congested area for business community and its up keep also is too expensive because to the close side of the sea..in this regards only he will use it as only for official purpose only.the residence should be permanently be shifted to somewhere its more accessible.

Just one of the many lavish parties at "Temple Trees" for selected group of people from the general public merely to canvass votes, would have cost well above the expenditure incurred for the renovation. There was no mention about the utter waste of money at that time.

Comments I have received and the comments Las has received for your idea says the truth. If you check the cost of renovations you will understand its just simple work a normal minister has. Not like previous regime who will spend billions to renovate to become better than presidents palace. Then you will understand who the idiot is.
