Milco strike called off

The strike action at the Milco Company was temporarily called off after President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave an assurance that the concerns expressed by the workers would be resolved soon, Sri Lanka Nidahas Sangamaya President Padmasiri Silva said.

“We suspended our strike action for one month after Ven. Mureththettuwe Ananda mediated on our behalf with President Mahinda Rajapaksa who promised to resolve our concerns very soon. Our three demands have been directed to an arbitration board and would be settled within a month during which all strike action is prohibited,” Mr. Silva said.

The Milco branch of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya launched the strike on December 9 demanding that the company management be removed.(Ajith Siriwardana)
