Surprising to hear that there is no crime, etc, etc. in the USA. Population there is billion and most of the incidents are not reported on a daily basis like in Sri Lanka. Almost everyday there is rape, killings, robberies, etc.

meenavan, good question you should have asked this during the time R. Premadasa was ruling the country with horrendous terror, killings and you name it.....the UNP rogues taught these crimes so it is continuing.... nothing new

This is normal to every country.Look at the crimes in Australia,USA,UK or any other country in Asia except Japan. The human values are fading but even in the past it was the same.I remeber during Premadasa era(1988/1989) everyday I saw dead people on the road burning on tyres and astray dogs eating human flesh. All these UNPers at that time did not see or did not talk about that. All rivers were full of bloated human bodies and monitor lizards were on them having their meals.Bizarre things that never happened in Sri Lanka. It was by then governments para military forces who done killing with the bless of UNP politicians. Now it is private affairs of people who make kill each other for gree and power. The human life went to 5 cents during Premadasa/Jayawardena time and people used to see crimes as normal.

you should have asked this question in 1988/1989 when 50,000 bodies were burning on tyres along the roads and floating dead in rivers.

Do the murderers demanded money for the elections? Something fishy indeed. IGP you must have a thorough investigation without Political interferences.

The business tycoon of Galaha refused to give any money for political activities, this caused his murder by the ruthless ruling party, no doubt - this is the true startement.

We have a very weak Police Department, working as petty coat garments to Gocvt. Politicians. Other-wise, will a murder occur almost adjoing the Police Station? funny...

The person, whose shop was close to the Police station, was not safe. Can any reader tell me the safest place in Sri-Lanka to reside with a family or to do business? It is high time for general public to decide how wise it is to allow the present Government to continue in power.

This is now a recurring feature in all South Asian countries. Whilst the standard of living is improving, human values are depreciating.

Not to excuse the murderers at all, but there must be a lot more to this story than what is told thus far. I find it highly unlikely that a group of thugs simply and at random picked on this man for no reason other than to have some fun cutting him to pieces.

People in SL are spineless just like the opposition leader and his party..... People should rally around, seek help from western countries. Armed forces and police if u love Sri lanka, please help the people to rebell against this oppressive regime.

Same jealousy Sri Lankans have about Sanath, was the factor behind the murder of this innocent businessman. Sri Lankans absolutely hate seeing someone else working hard and being successful. Socialist mentality, backward mentality.

The shocking thing is that the crime rate per population is very low in the US. In Sri Lanka, it is alarmingly high. Irony is that this is the dharma rajya we're talking about.

Is this the development of SL? More murderers, rapists, thugs, rogues and robbers? Where are we heading?

Sarani Sunday, 15 July 2012 01:18 AM
You're forgetting that we're talking about Sri Lanka, where jealousy is part-and-parcel of everyday life, to the point that doing business is pointless, jealous, lazy socialist attitude will bring you down somehow, if not by strikes, by murder.

Just one more sign of the moral decay of this once beautiful Island. No wonder most professional people leave, at the first opportunity to fairer lands. They definitely could have a better quality of life, where the rule of law prevails.

As many of you already said, this country is going down hill. No law or nor equality of law or law manipulated only for own benefits. What a rate of crimes - are these "sensitive" leaders/ proud fathers don't see them? do they only care about money riches they earn? Disappointing.. time to pack up and migrate to west.

There is an old proverb: "The fish is starting to rot from the head." Sri Lanka is rotting from the head too because everyone see the impunity for the worst crimes are given freely by the Government to the rapists and the murderers.
Last Christmas, the British tourist was brutally killed; his Russian girlfriend was beaten to pulp and raped, while she was profusely bleeding from her head by member of the Ruling Party, the Chairman of the Tangalle Pradesheeya Sabha and his cronies. Witness said that total 8 men raped the dying Russian tourist while she was unconscious and lying in pool of blood
Last week another member of the Tangalle Pradesheeya Sabha (together with several of his associates) was arrested for allegedly abducting a 14 year old girl and gang-raping her. The accused, Anjana Liyanage was not arrested by police as he enjoys political protection. from Government

It is so sad. The end of the war was the best chance given to this country. Our rulers are ruining it (we are to blame as well for electing them) with lack of law and order. Deepest sympathies to the victims family.

The government should be responsible for the crimes happening in the country.
I am from Qatar, here, numbers of people from other countries are interested investing in Sri Lanka. But they are telling us Sri Lanka is not a safe country as country has many kiilings and aductions every nook and corner.
This government is faild to avoid of all malpractices. But spending huge some common man's money for marketing Sri Lanka for Investment and tourism. But No use.
