Mobile service providers ordered to give details

The Colombo Fort Magistrate today ordered two mobile phone service providers to provide details pertaining to two telephone numbers which were alleged to have been used by the person who allegedly prevented prisons officials from carrying out their duties when former army commander Sarath Fonseka was taken for treatment to a private hospital on July 21.

Filing a motion before Magistrate Ms. Lanka Jayaratne, the CCD sought a Court order to obtain telephone details regarding two contact numbers which were alleged to have been used by the person who allegedly prevented prisons officials from carrying out their duties. The CCD submitted in Court that they are carrying out investigation into the incident and seeking telephone details to trace the person who was involved in the incident.

On being satisfied by the submissions by the police, the Magistrate ordered two cell phone service providers that telephone details pertaining to two contact numbers be provided to the CCD.

Earlier the Prisons Department in a complaint to the Colombo Crimes Division accused a person on crutches; a regular visitor to the hearings of the former Army commander had attacked a jailor and prevented officials from carrying out their duties. This was when the former army commander had visited the Nawaloka hospital to undergo treatment. The next hearing was set for August 19. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
