More against FB

More complaints have been lodged against the social network site ‘Facebook’ and the authorities had even managed to trace and block one user’s account last week, an official at the Women and Children’s Bureau told Daily Mirror online.
He said that last week the Women and Children’s Bureau had received at least four complaints against the social network site being abused by some people who had put up altered pictures of Sri Lankan girls and women without their consent on the popular site.
The pictures are at times taken off other websites or Facebook accounts, altered in an indecent manner and later published on other Facebook accounts. At least 50 complaints had been lodged against Facebook in middle of this year.
The Women and Children’s Bureau said that it has become difficult to trace the elements behind abusing Facebook as their unique computer Internet Protocol (IP) address cannot be traced when they upload images on the international website.
He added however that discussions are underway to look at an alternative technology to crackdown on the culprits with the assistance of the Telecom Regulatory Commission. (Daily Mirror online)

Facebook at the moment you cannot simply trace all the users.
It's the responsibility of the users to use FB properly!
Banning won't solve anything, people will use proxy as they do in China.2 7

Personally, I have nothing against FB, but it is not foolproof, neither do you find a disclaimer mentioning the potential problems that might arise when sharing personal pictures, that can eventually be saved and edited by other people. It seems that some people have really suffered from this kind of misuse, but as long as negligent people continue to use social media without foreseeing the consequences, then we can expect to have more incidents like this happening.

The IP addresses are recorded and can be traced back to the ISP who would have the corresponding account information, dates, and times. It's more to do with not having the resources to police those engaged in these kind of activities. Having said that, there have been isolated cases of international arrest warrants produced where the incidents were of a more serious nature.

Guide on "How to use FB' properly:
1) Do not upload photo's that you do not want people to see onto you profile!
2) Do NOT accept people you do not know as Friends!
3) Educate yourself and make use of the Privacy settings given by FB!
4) ... and PARENT keep an eye on your childrens activities on the internet. No one else but you have to take responsility for it. !!!!
It's Pointless and silly to blame the social network site due to the ignorance of some users

This is irresponsible acting of Srilankan People, Specially people who do IT and engadge in FB full time.. They have few accounts under the same person in different User names Males acting as Females and Females Acting as males... And using FB for Dating purposes so people do these things and they deserve actions... I think FB Should start IP address tracing...

I would say users has to be educated on the privacy that facebook it self provides restrict viewing of their profile content. Sometimes a little knowledge is enough to keep you away from the pervs. But then again why would anyone post their revealing photos on websites like this?

There are stuffs like TV, Internet, Friends, when people use it for good, then that is ok, if it is used for a bad purpose, it looks really ugly like in this case. Facebook is one such thing. Criminals should be punished, but again I don't personally get a good reason to use Facebook anymore. By the name of tolerance they have hurt my religious feelings, I have stopped using FB since May 21st, 2010.

Facebook pictures are few which are maupilated, u do get these weirdos at parties who takes pics with their camera phones and then post them on the internet, they need to make pornagraphy legal so normal women wont be harrassed like this...
