UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, during a meeting with Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa in New York on Wednesday, emphasized the need for a more holistic approach to address the remaining challenges in reconciliation.
According the readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with President Rajapaksa, ‘the both the leaders exchanged views on the post-conflict situation in Sri Lanka and the country’s cooperation with the United Nations.’
“The Secretary-General noted the Government’s latest efforts to conduct the provincial elections and to implement the recommendations of its Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission,” it added.
The meeting was held on the sideline of the ongoing UN General Assembly, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
