The Met Department has warned that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over the island during the afternoon or evening today and requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

“Showers will occur in the coastal areas from Kankasanturai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa during the morning too. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity,” it said.

Meanwhile issuing the summery of the weather condition during last 24 hours ending this morning, the department said that showers/thundershowers occurred over most parts of the country during the all day, except Eastern province. Highest rainfall, 72.3 mm was reported from Kandalama.
