UNP MP Earl Gunasekara says five more UNP parliamentarians are to extend their support to the government for the 18th amendment to the constitution when it is debated and voted on in Parliament this week.

At a previous media briefing it was announced that UNP Deputy General Secretary Lakshman Seneviratne, Earl Gunasekara and Manusha Nanayakkara will support the constitutional amendments.

Gunasekara says another five UNP MPs will extend their support to the government this week but declined to mention the names of those members.

He said a secret meeting was held to obtain the support of these UNP members and a joint press conference will be held on Wednesday after the vote in Parliament with the remaining five UNP members. (Daily Mirror online)

There should be a law to stop elected representatives from crossing over to other parties. It makes the voters look so stupid. They contest under one party and get there votes to be elected, then they desert the party that elected them; literally spitting on the voters. This should be made illegal, if they want to change their party, then they should vacate the post and seek re-election.
