President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that most non-Buddhists were conducting their religious activities in places, which belonged to Buddhist temples or sacred lands.
“The Venerable Buddhist priests have given these lands to non-Buddhists because Buddhism teaches us to give donations. We are ready to donate at any time as Buddhists. The Maha Sanga and all Buddhists are free of no racialism and regionalism,” the president said, addressing an event at the Balapokuna Temple in Kirulapone.
The president’s office in a statement quoting the president also said, “When we go to some temples we can see a diminishing number of benefactors. I think this is mainly because people think of their economy.”
He further said the reason for reducing the contributors at the temples was that the hereditary people in the areas had left the area and settled down in other places without thinking of their ancestor’s properties. “Our nation, country and religion will be saved when the people discontinue this migration. Now the time has come to hold these types of ceremonies without fear and suspicion as already we have ended the thirty year era of terrorism. Now it is time for people of all races and religions to live together. We have no racialism,” the president said.

Hindus, Muslims and Christians buy land and pay for it. Buddhist grab the land in North and East for free but on the other hand, they shout to the others over jealousy.

Most of the Sinhalese kings offered this country to the Buddha sasana starting from King Devanampiyatissa .Read the history before you speak. British have no right by any means to offer any land to anyone which doesn't belong to them. Your point is hilarious.
Your Muslim ancestors came from the middle east. That's a fact that you can't deny.Sinhalese culture was born in this country. So as a race, the Sinhalese own this land..but we never deny the fact that other people's right to live in SL, but they should admit that this is a Sinhalese country

Kishan Tuesday, 22 January 2013 05:32 PM
Lord Buddha hasn't preached that everyone should give up their worldly life in pursuit of nirvana. It's a choice one should make. You are using Buddhist teaching to attack the Sinhalese.
btw.
Why don't you comment in your real name.I'm sure you're a Muslim who who pretend to be a Sinhalese

In 2011 , it is 1.8 Million.
There growth is phenomenal and is TWICE that of any other ethnic group in Sri Lanka.
I have more ALARMING figures if you know what I mean.
In two hundred years Sinhalese will be a minority.

There are no sacred land anywhere in SL In that matter in the world. All these adjectives are people made for their own convenience and belief.Buddhism doesn't need any land call sacred. to Buddhism. It need only sacred people with sacred pure minds. One can see that so-called holy land in Middle East, how that Jews and Palestinian killing each other since this sacred business begun. Before that Night Templers and popes killed millions and millions and still bleeding. It is the same with Mecca. Every year cutting throats of animals numbering millions. .

Because Buddhism is a tolerant to other religions. Buddhism does not speak of punishments. Buddha led an exemplary life.It was propagated without compulsion. So, temple lands are used by other religions.

None of the land belongs to Buddhist Temples. Prove it if you speak the truth. One cannot unilaterally declare the whole of Sri Lanka as Buddhist land. When the British left they gave the land to Christians, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhist. One should not obey extremist Buddhist ideology and try to undermined other religions. The country belongs to All Sri Lankans. not only to the Buddhist. Do not incite racial hatred. We do not need another Religious war after an Ethnic war.

It is quiet clear that most properties around Balapokuna temple and rest of Kirulapona area is being targeted by Muslims to grab land. The reason is to invade Sinhalese ancestry land and later to claim the surrounding area as a Muslim people's land. The mosque was built in 1960's on a property surrounded by Sinhalese. At that time there was one or two muslim families living here, in rented houses. But today most properties are owned by Muslims.
After the mosque was established and the nuisance from loudspeaker noise during prayers five times a day is driving non muslims away from the area.

DM, Why not you publish my below comment
Ranjith, Don’t think you are too smart. True Buddhists will not bear worldly egos. Your comment itself reflects that you are beyond the folding of True Buddhism. Calling for five time prayer is transmitted in less than fifteen minutes in its entirety, whereas the recitation of Bana in the early hours and the late afternoon continue for hours. If you are not able to conclude a reasonable judgment you are no longer a true Buddhist. Land proclamation act in Sri Lanka does not deny right of living to a Sri Lankan in any part of the island. The only requirement is the identity of being a Sri Lankan.
