MP Harsha De Silva accused of assault

A driver of a medical officer lodged a complaint with the Narahenpita police yesterday against UNP MP Harsha De Silva for allegedly assaulting him over a land dispute in Longden place, Colombo, police said.

The driver had admitted himself to the hospital after lodging the complaint stating MP Silva had hit him on the head.

The dispute had arisen when the driver and his employer had attempted to clear a land adjoining that of the parliamentarian, the Police said.

Rejecting the allegations made by the driver, MP Harsha de Silva told daily mirror online the whole incident was a complete lie and the incident had been fabricated.

“There was a bulldozer adjacent to a land to my house and when I asked the driver what was happening he responded in an arrogant way. There were words exchanged, but I never hit him. This is a complete lie,” Dr. Silva said.

He said that he would take action against the false complaint.

Police said the complainant had upon receiving a receipt from the hospital, had left it thereafter.(DS &LP)
