National Freedom Front (NFF) parliamentarian Mohamad Muzamil filed bribery charges against Mohamad Myown Mustafa through his lawyers at the Bribery Commission late last night, an NFF spokesman told Daily Mirror online.
Muzamil had alleged last week that the opposition member had offered him money to garner his support at the Presidential Elections for General Sarath Fonseka. Muzamil also gave a statement to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) this morning.
Meanwhile the opposition also filed bribery charges against Muzamil at the Bribery Commission today.

Why didn't he go to the Bribery Commission before taking the 'bribe'? Having taken the bribe himself without the presence of Bribery Commission Officials he is blatantly guilty of taking a bribe which is also an offense. His boss is also guilty, for publicly announcing the money would be used for the election campaign!

Unfortunately for this muzzamil, a lot of people have distrust about Wimal who's character sounds a lot like the poem by Aesop ''the boy who cried wolf ''- Even when liars tell the truth, they are not believed.
And we get the feeling these charges does not appear to have any connection to Sarath Fonseka at all. And are going to loose air just like the son-in-law's arm's charges.
Makes one wonder How much Wimal was paid to leave the JVP!

There are many questions?
1. Why Mr.Muzamil did not go to Bribery Commission before collecting money?
2. Is he (Mr.Muzamil) such a populer and valuable to the country and political?
3. Why UNP not given thes money to poor people and collect more votes?
4. Did Mr.Muzamil deel more than from Wimal?
5. Now what is he going to do these bribe money?
6. Are UNP so foolish to give such a money by notes?

wait my dear! another 7 more days and you will get an unbiased independent bribery commission. Accepting a bribe also constitutes a crime. A criminal is going to CID and giving statements without any fear of being arrested. Did the police confiscate this money? the 3rd world mentality! The political culture of a certain country reflects the people's consciousness. we deserve each other.

Dear All,
It is very clear from Video Mustafa and Ahamed given the money. The worse audio eveidence also released. Muzammil is not important here. They want to attack Wimal. That will cost more.
I am ashamed to see the comments that even if clear evidence is provided people refused to beleive. But without any substantiation people tend to beleive the government is corrupt.
God save Sri Lanka

This is the first time audio and video of a bribary scandled was exposed to the public. Instead of attacking the man for exposing the scandle, why dont we objectively examine Gen (ret) Fonseka's credibility? It's impossible to believe he was not informed of the cross over 'windfall'. Unfortunately, the inexperienced General (ret) got trapped in the sting. He should blame his advisors and come clean. If not, the people will condemn him to the dustbin of history,.

Mr Muzzamil has done greate service to general public by exposing corrput politicians and political parities how they try to manipulate public openion by bribing elected leaders.
All others who crossed over to Fonseka side would have defeinetly accepted huge sum of money for this.
We, women in this country will use all our influence to defeat this cheap effort of UNP and Fonseka.

You lot got no idea of what ltte dispora's latest propaganda & boasting claims that we are hearing right now all over europe & americas. They seems confident that Ltte would be back in control after 26th.Therefore i urge all true sri lankans to back our only true Raja to take our country forward not backwards, which is the true intention of that bridesmaid Ranil & her cronies. Wake up all Sri Lankans-think of our country- trust the person who delivered the results, not those who promises the world to gain power & hellbent on destroy our wonderful country.

The popular thinking is that politicians are resorting to the practice of changing party loyalties influenced by monetary and other rewards. And also, the general criticism had been that bribery allegations related to such circumstances were being maliciously made by rival politicians without providing any tangible evidence. This is a case where the allegation is made supported by audio and video evidence. Thus, Muzzamil is behaving in a very exemplary and responsible manner. He deserves our admiration.

It doesn't matter whether Mr. Muzzamil is right or wrong accepting the bribe.
question is whether the allegation is true or false. So SF should concentrate on proving his innocence, not Mr. muzzamills guilt.

Monday, 18 January 2010 11:26 AM
Nothing has been proved, there are only allegations. If I go on TV tomorrow and claim that you gave me a bribe, does that make it true?
The courts have to decide what the truth is.

Monday, 18 January 2010 11:38 AM
Why didnt Muzammil inform the bribery commission before accepting the money . If his intention waas genuine that is what he would have done. Then the bribery commission officers would have caught the culprits red handed. He also said that a norwegian official was involved. There cant be many officials at the norwegian embassy so why not have an identification parade & identify.
& even if he accepted the money & then gives ti to the bribery commission ( assuming ti is true )how do we know he did not keep at least some of the money. becos WW did say they were going to use it.

If NFF uses the Rs 30Mn for any purpose for its own benefit tantamount to accepting the bribe? If we are to accept a mere video as real are we saying that the channel 4 video is also genuine?

Hi- It is very common to file these types of cases during the Election Times. Charges and Counter Charges, these politicians are taking the valuable time of the Courts. Some body will file defamatory cases. Value 1000 millions. Are they Rocket Scientists to ask such a huge sum of money? Some of them are O/L passed politicians.
Muzammil will definitely loose the case. The money has to come through the Bribery Commission- How do you know somebody return a loan taken from Muzammil? nihalg
