My party’s doors are not saloon doors-SF

Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Leader Sarath Fonseka said on Thursday that his party’s doors were open to everyone one but they were not like saloon doors – like some parties’ doors are.

“Our party’s doors will be open to anyone. If someone values our principle he or she can come in. But our party’s doors are not like saloon doors -- as some say their party’s doors are. If someone wants to get a job done he comes in and when the job is done he goes out of that kind of door. We don’t admire such principles,” he said.

After a discussion held with the Elections Commissioner regarding the registration of the DNA, Mr. Fonseka, spoke to the media at the Department of Elections.

He said the Commissioner had assured him that he would be informed of the decision regarding the registration of his party before April 5.

“The commissioner said he would inform us in writing about the registration of the party before the 5th of April. He said that he would also inform the Human Rights Commission also about the decision,” said Mr. Fonseka.

When asked about what kind of vision he would follow after the party registered, Mr. Fonseka said that his party wished to change the present political culture in the country and follow a middle path.

“The main objective of the current political system in the country is to maintain the winning party supporters. If someone wants to get a job done, he has to go behind a politician. We want to change that and serve everyone equally,” he said.(Yohan Perera and Lahiru Pothmulla)
